The Importance of Quality Sidewalks and Walkways
Sidewalks and walkways are the paths that connect the different parts of your property. They guide visitors from the street to your front door, from the driveway to the backyard, and from the house to the pool or garden. When they are done well, they add structure, safety, and visual appeal to your landscape. When they are cracked, uneven, or missing, they create trip hazards and make your property look neglected.
In Lakewood Park and across the Treasure Coast, concrete is the standard material for sidewalks and walkways because it handles the weather, requires minimal upkeep, and provides a smooth, slip-resistant surface for walking. Unlike gravel paths that scatter and need constant replenishing, or wood boardwalks that rot in the humidity, concrete stays put and looks clean for years.
At Lakewood Park Concrete Works, we install sidewalks, walkways, and all types of flatwork for residential and commercial properties. We handle the layout, grading, forming, and finishing to deliver a surface that is level, properly drained, and built to last. Whether you need a simple front walk or an extensive network of paths through your property, we have the experience to get it done right.
Types of Flatwork We Install
- •Front entry walkways from the driveway or street to your front door
- •Side yard paths connecting the front and back of your property
- •Garden walkways and landscape paths through planted areas
- •Commercial sidewalks for storefronts, offices, and public areas
- •Utility pads, aprons, and general flatwork for any property
Every walkway and sidewalk we build is graded for proper water drainage, reinforced for durability, and finished to your specifications. The details matter, and we do not skip steps.
Design and Finish Options for Walkways
Walkways do not have to be boring. While a standard brushed concrete path is perfectly functional, there are many ways to make your walkways more attractive and unique. Here are the options we offer.
Brushed and Broom Finish
The standard for sidewalks and walkways. A broom is dragged across the surface to create fine texture lines that provide excellent traction. This is the most affordable finish and works well for any application. Clean, functional, and professional-looking.
Stamped Walkways
Add personality to your walkway with stamped patterns that replicate natural stone, brick, or tile. Stamped walkways create a high-end look that complements your landscaping and home architecture. They are especially popular for front entry paths where first impressions matter.
Colored and Stained Concrete
Integral color or surface stain adds visual warmth and ties your walkways to the overall color scheme of your property. Earth tones are popular in Lakewood Park, blending naturally with the tropical landscape. Color can be combined with stamping or used on its own for a subtle upgrade.
Exposed Aggregate
Exposed aggregate reveals the natural stones in the concrete mix for a textured, decorative surface. It provides excellent traction and a natural look that works well in outdoor settings. This finish is durable, hides wear well, and ages gracefully over time.
We will help you choose a finish that balances function, aesthetics, and budget. Every option we offer is built to handle foot traffic and Florida weather.
Our Walkway and Flatwork Installation Process
Whether we are pouring a short front walk or hundreds of feet of commercial sidewalk, our process is thorough and consistent. Here is how we work.
Layout and Planning
We measure the area, plan the route, and determine the width, thickness, and grade. For front walks, we consider the approach from the street and the entry point at the door. For garden paths, we work with the existing landscape. We mark everything out and review the plan with you before starting.
Excavation and Base Work
We excavate the path to the proper depth, remove grass, roots, and debris, and install a compacted gravel base. The base is graded so water drains to the sides and does not pool on the surface. We set forms along the edges to define the shape and ensure straight, clean lines.
Pouring and Finishing
We pour the concrete, level it, and apply the chosen finish. Control joints are cut at regular intervals to prevent random cracking. If you have selected stamping or coloring, those are applied during finishing. After the surface is complete, we apply curing compound and allow proper curing time.
From start to finish, our crew handles every detail. We clean up the job site, remove forms after curing, and make sure the finished product meets your expectations. If you need steps or stairs to connect your walkways to different elevations, we build those too.
